Your ideas for using Flickr in your classroom?
© Harry Grover Tuttle, 2007
I am a science teacher and I could see using flickr in my classroom as a neat real world connection. I would ask the kids to take a picture anytime they see something outside of school that could be deemed “physics in action” and then post thier pictures in a shared class account. This activity would get my students searching thier everyday surroundings for physics and truly processing what they have learned in class but in a new, and more meaningful, context.
I could periodically review the pictures with my students and have discussions about whether the picture shows good physics and what concepts it relates to that we have covered in the course. Over the course of the year I could imagine over 50 photos being posted by my students.
Sciteach,
Your physics in action is a great use of using Flickr. The students could even comment on the physics in each other’s pics.
