    The project was an ELA project using anitque cars. The Aseltine score would be 50%. This is primarly due to the fact that as a BOCES, we need data back from individual districts to establish need. We are just starting to receive test results and will be utilizing that in the future to guide our teaching. The district plan is based on speculation not fact, observations in the classroom is only part of the picture. Our whole way of thinking is changing now that we will have access to student scoring data. I think the use of the Aseltine’s questions is very focused and a very useful tool. It is also a quick and easy evaluation.

    – Aseltine Score: 50%

    – As I went through the four questions, I realized that I was unclear about our district’s performance data. I am familiar with sites like datamentor and cognos, but until today, I wasn’t aware of how important they can be for someone in a postition such as mine.

    – All four questions seem so simple, yet I neglected to ask/answer two of them while integrating technology into this project. I typically ask teachers for their student objective before working on a project with them, but I never realized that their objectives might not be the same as the administration’s objectives. Reading through these questions made me realize that integrating technology is much more than just suggesting ideas and teaching teachers how to implement it. Just because the technology is available, doesn’t neccessarily mean it is the correct tool for the job.

    Although the district scores need improvement, there are many areas where technology equipment is being used correctly by tecahars and many areas where it is either not being used or not being used correctly. We are moving toward finding the anwsers curriculum by assessing the where “we went wrong” on test questions, but it will take time and cooperation to make that work.

    1. Score varies significantly from school to school. Overall 50%.
    2 and 3. The challenge at hand is having every teacher feel responsible for using technology to help students learn.

    It’s easier for too many to sit back and let “other” teachers handle this (using technology in learning), while some teachers feel they are teaching “what needs to be taught”.

    Yet the day of sitting back is gone. Education today “demands” every teacher helps students learn and uses every means to accomplish this – and one of these means is technology.

    Our discussion today is challenging me to do a better job of communicating studentg learning is the first priority.

    Aseltine Score: Difficult for me to assess

    Project: Research on a South American country and publishing a pamphlet displaying that information.

    1) Score: 1 The project brought together research, writing skills, and critical thinking using technology.

    2-4) Score: ? As the technolgy coordinator/teacher I assessed my part of the project (the use of the technolgy to produce the finished result), but I did not get feedback on the class’ performance or on how it influenced/enhanced leearning.

    It seems that there is a need to reinforce that the technology curriculum is not a seperate curriculum (as it is percieved to be) but an enhancement of the core curriculum.
